ObAMI (aka Obama “Yes We Can” Crochet Doll)

We didn’t know exactly what amigurumi was when California-based amigurumi crafter Sharon sent us the photos of “ObAMI,” but a quick trip to Squidoo told us this:
Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small animals or toys. The dolls are done in single crochet in the round. The rounds are never joined, instead being worked in a spiral. Amigurumi are made up of parts that are crocheted, stuffed, and sewn together. The parts are usually an over-sized round head, a cylindrical body, arms and legs, ears, tail (if needed) and embellishments. Sometimes, felt is used to create the ears, face, or nose.
And, as you can see, not only is her creation pretty darn cute, it’s a fairly large project as well.

hi Sharon and all the rest at the obama craft project,
I was wondering if you or anyone else has a pattern for this Obama Doll. Sharon, you did a wonderful job and I would love to try and recrate the doll for my friend for Christmas! It is definitely the cutest Obama doll on the web!! I would love it if you wouldn’t mind sending me the pattern you used. I would really appreciate it.
Regards, Erin
