Remember this pin?
Well, we have a a bit of follow up on the recipient of this pin, Louise, a super volunteer in Durham, NC. A short write-up was posted about her in one of the diaries on the Daily Kos:
There’s this fantastic voter registration dynamo in Durham named Louise. I gave her 500 forms a while ago, and they are pretty much all gone.
Louise drove to Charlotte, to her son’s college, and more or less forced all his friends to register (or else); she sneaked into the employee lounge at Southpoint Cinemas and registered the staff; she registered the waitstaff at Applebees one night. Louise never leaves the house without 20 VR forms in her purse.
It is thanks to ordinary people like Louise that this election has the potential to transform this nation. It’s brought people together who have never even met to work together to create change. That’s what this campaign is all about.
In honor of Louise, we’d like to take a moment to talk about how you can get involved as well.
Voter registration deadlines are very near, and in some states voting has already started. To make sure you’re registered to vote, visit Vote for Change; it’s a quick and easy process to make sure you’re registered at your current address, find out how to update your registration and get information about early voting and requesting an absentee ballot. Consider getting involved in this campaign, both in voter registration and get out the vote efforts. The Obama Action Center has all the tools you need to take action and get involved.
Finally, if you can afford it, please consider making a financial contribution of any size to the Obama campaign. We’ve heard a few people make comments like, “The Obama campaign has plenty of money.” or “I don’t think 5 or 10 bucks will make a difference.” Both of these statements couldn’t be further from the truth. This presidential campaign is more expensive than any in history–with the potential for $1 billion to be spent when all is said and done. The Republican National Committee raised record amounts in September, which they will be using to attack and smear Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Small amounts can make a huge difference, because they’re combined with other folks’ contributions—that’s what this campaign is all about. We have a handy link on the Obama Craft Project site to make a contribution to the Obama campaign. By making a contribution, you will, like so many of us, own a piece of this campaign.
Finally, we’re still hearing terrible smears and rumors about Barack Obama. You can help fight those smears by reporting them via the campaign’s Fight the Smears web site. We reported a blatant lie that was contained in an ad for the McCain campaign that was running on Craftster yesterday and it was quick and easy. You can also fact check anything you see or hear about Barack Obama on that site as well, and easily email that information to others.
Thanks for all that you do, everyone! Only 31 days until the election!
