DDOOCFS: Durham for Obama Skirts
Trudy in Durham, North Carolina emailed us this marvelous photo of the skirts she’s made as part of her fundraising effort for the Obama campaign. If you’d like one of these unique garments, send Trudy an email (she doesn’t have an Etsy shop) at lilwing [at] mindspring [dot] com. She doesn’t have an Etsy, shop so she’s primarily looking for locals who are interested in purchasing a skirt. But, if you’re not in the area, she’s can work something out with you as well. (If you have trouble reaching her via email, let us know and we’ll pass along her phone number.)

Block from the Obama Quilt
This is Diana Bracy‘s block from the Fiber Artists for Obama Group Quilt project. (Diana also made another one of our favorite Obama crafts, check it out here.) The top label reads “change is good,” the middle portion explains the conception of the quilt and the bottom label reads “what color is the soul anyway?” Most of the fabrics are from Ghana.

Fiber Artists for Obama Group Quilt
This quilt was made by the Fiber Artists for Obama group, and is currently on its way to Houston, in hopes of it being shown in the “Patchwork Politics” section of Quilt Market. The quilters are from all over the country, and two women, Mary Bowman and Stephanie Scott, from Riverside, California pieced the blocks together. An Alaskan, Maria Shell, binded and quilted it, and added a label on the back that includes the names of each person who contributed to the quilt. Following Houston, the quilt will travel to as many states as possible, before it will be given to the Obama family.
Thank you to Diana Bracy (who made one of our favorite items we’ve posted here) for uploading this picture to the OCP Flickr pool.

Quilters for Obama
This video from the Quilters for Obama group really touched us as symbolic of the entire campaign over these many, many long months. This quilt, made by close to 30 quilters from all over this great nation, is part of a large fundraising effort on the part of the Quilters for Obama group. To date, they have raised almost $13,000 (from over 400 donors!) to support the Obama campaign. A bit more about this peoject:
There are star blocks representing all 50 states, 3 territories, Washington DC and even Americans Abroad…all who propelled Obama victoriously through the primaries! At the very center of this quilt is Barack Obama himself (created by 15,000+ tiny cross stitches) whom we are working so hard for, because he is working so hard for us!
They are raffling this quilt off, and the last day to enter the drawing is October 15, 2008. The drawing will be October 21, 2008. To enter, you can make a donation to the Obama campaign this fundraising page. The quilters request that the winner of this quilt NOT sell or auction it for their own personal gain, but, that they cherish this as an heirloom which commemorates this historic election or donate it to the Obama family/Obama Presidential Library.
