DDOOCFS: Karen’s Obama Scarves

Yes We Can by Willie Ru.

Karen, from South Carolina, made this scarf of handspun art yarn of wool & vintage fabrics and then crocheted the yarn and combined it with novelty yarns and strips of cotton fabrics. She’s currently selling this one-of-a-kind scarf, and another, similar one, on eBay. One hundred percent of the purchase price will be donated to the Obama campaign (and she’s offering free shipping).

Side note: Poor Karen, she emailed these items to us a few days ago and then eBay took her auction down. While her auctions are back up now, we still believe Meg Whitman’s behind it.

Shepard Fairey-Inspired Crocheted Bag

IMGP2561 by jessica11865.

This crocheted bag that jessica11865 uploaded to the Obama Craft Project Flickr pool reminds us very much of the now-iconic Obama print by Shepard Fairey (bit of bragging—we managed to snag one when the Obama campaign was selling them this spring). The shading in the face is really quite striking—this is definitely a bag we can believe in!

ObAMI (aka Obama “Yes We Can” Crochet Doll)

YesWeCan800x600 by Ami Amour.
We didn’t know exactly what amigurumi was when California-based amigurumi crafter Sharon sent us the photos of “ObAMI,” but a quick trip to Squidoo told us this:

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small animals or toys. The dolls are done in single crochet in the round. The rounds are never joined, instead being worked in a spiral. Amigurumi are made up of parts that are crocheted, stuffed, and sewn together. The parts are usually an over-sized round head, a cylindrical body, arms and legs, ears, tail (if needed) and embellishments. Sometimes, felt is used to create the ears, face, or nose.

And, as you can see, not only is her creation pretty darn cute, it’s a fairly large project as well.
