You’re Invited! Screen Print with the Obama Craft Project in Portland
Ever wanted to try screen printing? Or see how a Print Gocco Machine works? Come hang with the team from the Obama Craft Project, print your own Obama T-shirt using screens we’ve created and make your own election souvenir postcard. This is a fun way to try out a new craft while raising money for the Obama campaign and a chance to make new friends!
WHO: The Obama Craft Project
WHAT: Screen Printing for Change
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 18, 2:00-5:00 p.m
WHERE: The OCP Headquarters–our house–in NE Portland, Ore. (We’ll send you the address when you RSVP)
WHY: To have fun, build community and raise money for the Obama campaign!
To participate:
1.) We ask for a suggested donation of $10 to the Obama-Biden Campaign via the Obama Craft Project fundraising page. Please comment in the notes field that this contribution is for the screen printing party. (We will also have donation forms available at the event.) Please use the link to the Obama Craft Project Fundraising page, so that the Obama Craft Project can get credit for the fundraising, rather than the link that follows your event registration on my.barackobama.com!
2) BYOT (Bring Your Own T-shirt); You can use an old shirt, and light or bright colors are better. You can also make a commemorative poster using heavy paper or print on a piece of wood or vinyl and make a unique yard sign! Get creative! Almost anything can be screen printed, if it can lay flat: bags, sun shades, most clothes, wood, paper. Bring whatever you want, and we’ll help you screen print it!
3.) Please consider bringing a T-shirt to donate to our effort to send Obama T-shirts to volunteers in Chillicothe, Ohio. This is our way to show support for the hard work they’re doing in that very important part of a very critical swing state. Inexpensive T-shirts can be purchased just about anywhere: Target, Kohls, Fred Meyer. If you don’t have time to pick one up, we’ll gladly accept donations to help purchase T-shirts to send to Chillocothe.
I you’d like to participate, but are tapped out donation-wise (which we totally understand, given the dire economic situation), we’d love to have you come! Email us at obamacraftproject@gmail.com and we’ll figure something out.
NOTE: Please use the link to the Obama Craft Project Fundraising page, so that the Obama Craft Project can get credit for the fundraising, rather than the link that follows your event registration! Here’s the link.
A similar event was held in Austin earlier this month; check out the photos here.
Register for this event at the Barack Obama web site.
Josh and I will be manning the screen printing table, while the fabulous Susan Beal will manning the Gocco printer (which is so incredibly cool, if you haven’t seen one in action before!).

DDOOCFS: Obamastuff’s Etsy Shop
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek.”
Tonight’s Daily Dose of Obama Crafts for Sale (DDOOCFS) features not a single item, but rather an entire Etsy store. Etsy seller ObamaStuff has several stencils for sale to aid in your Obama crafting… Our favorite is the “We are the change.” O-mark stencil. Michele, the proprietor of ObamaStuff, is donating a portion of the profits to the Obama campaign—she does ask, however, that you please only stencil your own stuff, not public property or anything that could reflect poorly on the Obama campaign.

Austin Screen Printing Party
In Austin, Texas last week crafters got together to screen print and raise money for the Obama-Biden campaign. In exchange for a $10 donation, you could have anything—from a T-shirt to a car sun shade screen printed. These are Rachel‘s photos from the event.
Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
For you Portland peeps… Send us an email at sewersewist@gmail.com or comment on this post if this is something you’d be interesting in attending. We’re looking at Saturday, October 11… We’ll gauge interest and, if enough people are game, we’ll organize one here! Let us know ASAP.

EVENT: Obama Gocco Postcard Writing Party in Portland, Ore.
If you are in the Portland, Ore. area, come write postcards to undecided women in swing states this Friday! Susan Beal is hosting an event at Tandem Coffeehouse in Southeast Portland on Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and has printed up a punch of awesome postcards like the ones in the photo above on her Print Gocco machine. Here are the details:
Join us to write postcards for the general election! (Details on the postcard drive are here.)
We’ll be gocco-printing handmade Oregon and US-map postcards for people to write on the spot and send in to the campaign as part of the GOTV effort in October. I’ll have a stack of hand-printed postcards ready for people to write, but feel free to bring your own souvenir/map postcards along with pens and 27-cent stamps.
This event is baby- and kid-friendly, and please bring your friends along too! Tandem Coffeehouse has coffee, tea and food, and a play area for children. Hope to see you!
Update: We’ll be mailing them in bulk after this week to a national office to address there, so no worries about bringing your own list of addresses or other details like that. We’ll just write the messages and stamp them and the volunteers in Ohio send them out in October. Thanks!
You can also bring your own cards–lots of shops like Fred Meyer and the Made in Oregon Store sell Portland and Oregon tourist postcards that would be appropriate. Please remember to bring your own postcard stamps (they’re 27 cents these days).
Please RSVP by clicking here.

3041 SE Division St.

If you are hosting a craft-related event in support of the Obama campaign, let us know! Email us at obamacraftproject@gmail.com with the details and we’ll post it here…
